Shanghai is a giant metropolis and a city with a thousand-year history
The Chinese city of Shanghai is on the list of the largest and most large-scale urban centres of the Earth.
This is the largest city in the world, the largest port, and one of the most important financial centres, in which the interests of European and Asian companies are connected. For comfortable travel, tourists will need the city guide or an experienced guide.Tourists should visit the modern area with its skyscrapers and the Shanghai World Financial Centre building, as well as other places of interest: The Shanghai Grand Theatre, the State Museum of Oriental Art, Beijing Opera, the largest Buddhist temple – the Leong San Temple and the Jade Buddha Temple. Other popular places for visitors are the Vaitan embankment, bridge-ring, markets and ancient buildings on the river in the outskirts of the city.In Shanghai there is a modern and developed transport system. There are more than 1,000 bus routes on the city map. However, a large amount of public transport and personal cars leads to significant air pollution. In Shanghai, the oldest trolleybus line in China operates, which was launched more than 100 years ago – in 1914. During this time the system was repeatedly reconstructed and modernised. The Shanghai Metro is actively developing – by 2020 it is planned to have increased the number of lines to 23. They will connect all parts of the city, as well as suburban areas.
