Tel Aviv – the secular city of religious Israel
Touristic Tel Aviv with its character and lifestyle is very different from other cities in Israel, and even more so from the capital.
Local people say: “While Jerusalem is praying, Tel-Aviv is strolling” and this is an absolute truth. There is a developed infrastructure of entertainment, transport, clean beaches, a large number of hotels and entertainment facilities, which attract both foreign tourists and local tourists. In comparison with other famous cities on the planet, Tel Aviv is a young city – its mass development and construction only began in the 1930s. Therefore, there are no monuments of ancient architecture here. The main architectural landmark is the old port of Jaffa, which was previously a separate city, and later merged with the territory of the sprawling Tel Aviv. However, the stone streets and buildings of Jaffa only seem ancient, the port was completely rebuilt preserving its authentic style. To get to Jaffa, follow the waterfront or use the city guide.Other popular places worth visiting are the The Museum of the Jewish People at Beit Hatfutsot and the excavations of ancient settlements of the Philistines. The main feature of public transport worth noting is that most routes do not work during the Sabbath – from the afternoon of Friday until Saturday evening. At this time, the tourist can take advantage of a few shuttle buses or call a taxi. On other days comfortable buses and electric trains run.
